buildingSMART Brazilian Chapter

BuildingSMART International is organized in the form of Regional Alliances (Chapters) representing a country or group of countries. Currently existing chapters are: Australasia, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg), China, French-speaking countries, German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), Iberian countries (Spain and Portugal), Italy, Japan, Korea, Canada, United States (BIMForum), Nordic Countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), Singapore, United Kingdom and Ireland, Russia, Turkey and Hong Kong. In November 2009, the Middle East and North Africa chapter (United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Egypt) was launched.

 

BuildingSMART chapter members have a number of benefits including access to best practices worldwide, shared investment in research and promoting changes in human resources, processes and technology. In addition, they develop relationships with companies with similar interests and facilitate their advertising (through the website, newsletters, events).

 

BIM Forum Brasil has as part of its OpenBIM dissemination strategy, the development of actions for the creation of a Brazilian Chapter of buildingSMART.

As part of its strategy for disseminating the OpenBIM, BIM Forum Brazil develops actions to create a Chapter Brazilian from buildingSMART.

 

 

A historical trajectory

The creation of the Brazilian Chapter already has a history of actions initiated at the Third Meeting on Information Technology in Construction (TIC2007) organized by the National Association of Technology in the Built Environment (ANTAC) and with support from ABES and SOFTEX. On the occasion, a day of meetings was promoted with a delegation of members of buildingSMART International with Brazilian businessmen, government representatives and researchers.

In 2008, through the efforts of a group gathered in São Paulo (DECONCI / FIESP, ABDI and MDIC), it was possible to formulate and promulgate for the first time a Development and Productivity Program (PDP0 for the Construction sector under the MDIC. seven actions of this PDP, specific actions on BIM were included.

In 2015 and 2016 ABDI led specific efforts to create the Brazilian Chapter of buildingSMART.

In 2018, the BIM.BR Strategy was decreed (Decree 9377 of 17.05.2018, re-enacted as Decree 9983 of 08.22.2019) which currently reiterates the importance of the adoption and dissemination of BIM with Decree 10306 of 02.04.2020 on use of BIM within the scope of the Federal Government and Pilot Programs. In 2018 and 2019, the organization of the BIM Forum Brazil which has as one of its strategic actions the realization of efforts to make the Brazilian Chapter of OpenBIM feasible.
